Labor Day kicks off the month of September, and with it comes the start of the academic year for many students.

However, September also brings several additional important days, such as World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10) to reduce stigma and raise awareness of ways to prevent suicide by helping people in crisis, and 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance (September 11) to honor first responders and the victims of 9/11. In addition, there’s World Patient Safety Day (September 17), World Alzheimer’s Day (September 21), and World Heart Day (September 29). During this month, focus on revenue cycle management (RCM) staff health and wellness while simultaneously meeting coding productivity and accuracy goals. QualCode can help

Note new medical codes set to take effect October 1 

The specifics: Starting October 1, 2024, several HCPCS code updates for drugs and biologicals; new CPT codes for labs; and new, revised, and deleted ICD-10-CM codes take effect.

What’s next: Review these changes with your RCM teams to ensure everyone reports the most accurate and specific codes for revenue integrity. While you’re at it, also be sure to read and share the FY 2025 ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting. Finally, plan to monitor denials closely and implement corrective action plans immediately.
